Regine Baus

January 13, 1932 — March 25, 2020

Gulf Breeze

Mrs. Regine L. Baus died on March 25, 2020 in Gulf Breeze, FL, at the age of 88.  Regine is survived by her half-brother Billy, her sons Andre and Jimmy, her daughters in law Vicki and Heather, former daughter in law Pauline, and her grandchildren Regine, Nathaniel, Jessica and Savannah.

Mrs. Baus was born on January 13, 1932 in Paris, France, to her parents Andre da Passano and Yvonne Genevois. The middle of three sisters, her family survived the German occupation during WWII. Shortly after the War, she followed her older sister to Chicago where she got a job in banking.  When her sister returned to France, Regine chose to move to New York.  Soon thereafter she met her future husband Barney at P.J. Clark’s, which led to their wedding in New Orleans “on the hottest day of the year”, and moves to West Virginia, Texas and Wilmington DE, for Barney’s Dupont job. While in Delaware her son Andre was born, and within months the family moved to San Juan PR for Barney’s new job with CORCO. Jimmy was born soon after the move to Puerto Rico, and the island would be home for the next 50 years. Regine had an affinity for languages, enjoyed her Bridge club every Friday, loved visiting her family in Paris (and smuggling back very smelly cheeses in her luggage), and adored chocolate almost as much as she did her grandkids. She loved her “French family” nieces and nephew as if they were her own. She and Barney moved to Gulf Breeze FL in 2014, where they resided for the rest of their lives. Barney passed in early 2018, then both of her sisters in 2019. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished her family and friends.

She did not want a funeral service, only to be cremated, and in lieu of flowers, etc., her wish was for friends and family to remember she and Barney, and their friendship and times together.
