Janie Sue Smith (McDowell), age 68, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2019, under the care of Covenant Care, West Florida Hospice, and in the loving presence of her husband, Rickey Smith.

Sue, as her loved ones called her, was originally from Cullman, Alabama, and graduated from Anniston High School in 1970.

In 1974, Sue married her husband, Rickey, and moved to Florida, where she served as the unit coordinator for the Baptist Hospital of Gulf Breeze for over 30 years, until her retirement in 2016.

She is preceded in death by her father, Walter McDowell, mother, Winford McDowell, half-sisters, Vivian Osgood and Marylou Storey, half-brother, Bill Teague, sister-in-law, Cindy Smith, and father-in-law, Alton Smith.

Sue is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rickey Smith. Daughter and husband, Olivia Shott (Mike); son, Michael; grandchildren, Austin Shott, Judson Shott; brother. Walt McDowell (Marsha); mother-in-law, Mildred Smith; sister-in-law, Barbara Smith; brother-in-law, Wayne Smith (Rita) and David Smith; as well as four nieces, three nephews, and thirteen great nieces and nephews.

A visitation with family will occur from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, November 1, 2019 at Rose Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery.
