Mildred Aline Burk, née Kindelan, died at home on December 23 with her daughter Christine Burk by her side. She was born in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, on November 14, 1924.
Millie was a trailblazer, the first in her family of six children to graduate from college (Seton Hill College, Greensburg, Pennsylvania). She earned a Master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Iowa and became a professional dietician.
In 1951, she married Frank T. Burk and they lived for many years in the Pittsburgh area before retiring to Gulf Breeze in 1989. As well as her daughter Christine, she is survived by daughters Mary Katherine, Susan, and Karen, her grandson Sam, and her sister Patricia Idzik. Funeral services will be held at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel on January 4, 2021. She will be buried next to Frank in Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida.
