John Ronald Smith passed away on February 18, 2021, at the age of 87, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. His battle with serious health issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with determination and heart. Despite the pain, John came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

John was a hard worker with a keen mind. He worked as a purchasing manager and a safety manager in Chicago (working with his father-in-law), Pennsylvania, Ft. Lauderdale, Nashville, and Atlanta, finally retiring with Torrington Company.

John grew up in the south side of Chicago and met the love of his life, Carol, at accordion lessons. It was love at first sight. Together they had two children: Dawn and Jack. He lovingly cared for Carol when she was ill and so looked forward to the day they would be reunited in the arms of the Lord.

He was a man of faith and a faithful man. He so enjoyed studying God’s Word and sharing his wisdom and counsel with others. He was a good friend and was so faithful to check on his friends and family. He loved his dogs Stitch (already crossed the rainbow bridge) and Lilo and was devoted to their care. He will be greatly missed.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife Carol, devoted in-laws Richard and Ester Fansom, and sisters Emy Lou, Lucille, and Arlene. He is survived by his son Jack (Brenda) Smith, Milton; daughter Dawn (Jacque) Williams, Woodstock, Georgia; grandsons Richard Smith, Jonathon (Jennifer) Smith, Micah Peterson, Todd (Stacey) Williams; granddaughters Hannah Peterson, Kelly (Mike) Mitchell, and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to express special appreciation and gratitude to Grampa’s loyal and devoted caregiver, Kim Buckley.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 11 am, at Liberty Church, Gulf Breeze, Florida. Pastor Ron Rice will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 am before the service.
