Edson James Andrews, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.R., F.A.C.C. went to be with the Lord on September 2, 2021, at the age of 81.

Edson James Andrews, Jr. was born in Tallahassee, Florida, who, in becoming a fifth-generation doctor, from very early in his life on never once questioned his decision to devote himself to a life-long pursuit of medicine.  He was graduated with a BA from the University of Colorado in 1962 after which he entered the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, where he received a Doctor of Medicine in 1966.  Following a brief internship at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte North Carolina, he was appointed an officer in the Public Health Service, Infectious Disease Control with the naval rank of Lieutenant Commander from 1967-1969.  He then completed a residency in Radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Missouri in 1971 a fellowship in Cardiovascular Radiology in 1972 with the National Institute of Health then at the University of Florida.  He then entered private practice starting in Alabama, where he advanced diagnostic radiology practice in several regional hospitals.  For the next twenty-three years, he practiced in Pensacola, Florida at the Medical Center Clinic/West Florida Hospital. in Pensacola, Florida.  In 2000, he became medical director for a medical cost management company in Nashville, Tennessee and in 2002 he was appointed full time Assistant Professor of Radiology at Vanderbilt University until 2013.  He also held part-time Associate and Adjunct Professor positions within the Department of Radiology at the University of South Alabama and Department of Radiology at the University of Florida, Gainesville, respectively.  In addition to numerous career awards, he was awarded fellowships by the American College of Radiology in 1991 and by the American College of Cardiology in 1996.

Edson James Andrews, Jr., is survived by his spouse of 59 years, Winifred Lynn Andrews, along with two sons, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
