Capt. Clifford Street, Usn (Ret.)

March 30, 1939 — January 24, 2021

Gulf Breeze

Clifford G. Street, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away restfully on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Covenant Care Hospice, Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. Clifford, or Cliff, as everyone called him, was born in Harlan, Kentucky, on March 30, 1939. During his early years, he lived in Kentucky, and his family eventually moved to Alabama, where he graduated from Vigor High School in Prichard in 1957. While in high school, Cliff met his future wife, Syl, and they were married on July 2, 1961. The same year, Cliff graduated with an engineering degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cliff lived a life of service. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Captain after serving our country for 27 years, including two deployments to Vietnam. He then served in the state of Florida as a civil engineer in the Department of Environmental Protection for 22 years.  He retired fully in 2011 to care for Syl, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia. His loving care of Syl continued until she passed away in June of 2016. Cliff served as a dedicated volunteer at Gulf Breeze Hospital until the COVID-19 outbreak in March of 2020. Since his youth, Cliff was a highly competitive athlete, and as an adult, he loved running, racquetball and tennis. He also loved solving word puzzles, reading and was a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. Most importantly, Cliff was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and he was loved by all who knew him. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Annette Street, and his devoted wife of 54 years, Syl. He is survived by his sons Mark (Terry) Street of Eatonton, Georgia and Shane (Erin) Street of Hoover, Alabama, brother, Craig (Robin) Street of Mobile, Alabama, granddaughter Ashley (Terry) Street West of Canton, Georgia, grandson Nate Street of Hoover, Alabama, brother-in-law Don (Laura) Anderson of Deer Park, Texas, other relatives, and countless friends.
