Billy Davis, Sr.

November 21, 1933 — October 31, 2020

Navarre

Billy Benjamin Davis, Sr., age 86, of Navarre, was called home October 31, 2020.  He was born November 21, 1933 in Roanoke, AL, to the late Hollis and Florence Davis.  Mr. Davis was a graduate of Talladega High School in Talladega, AL.  He was a salesman in the building supply business.  He had many loyal customers that became instant friends.  He worked at Sears, Lowes, Owsley Lumber, Fort Walton Lumber, Swift Supply and Builder’s Co-Op where his customers (friends) followed him at each stop.

Billy was a member of the Community Life United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Gulf Breeze Masonic Lodge.  Billy was a brother for just shy of 60 years.

He loved to go boating and fishing.  There were iconic days of Red Snapper and King Mackerel catches, and days of simply being on the water relaxing.  His smoked Boston Butts were a big hit in the neighborhood.   He loved his friends and neighbors, especially the group at CRAB INC; the neighborhood group that met down at the boat ramp in Robledal Estates.  They played horseshoes, ate some wonderful food, drank and told stories into the evening at each meeting.  He looked forward to going each week; his Golden Retriever Toby could tell when Friday would come around so he could play fetch with everyone.  Not sure who was more excited, Billy or Toby.

Mr. Davis is survived by his son Benjie Davis and daughter-in-law Tammy of Navarre FL.  Two granddaughters Shauna Maciel (husband Daniel) of Gulf Breeze and Sharon Egan (husband Billy) of Pensacola.  Three great grandchildren Sydney Bruhl, Alex Bruhl and Liam Davis Egan.  Nieces and nephews Janet Doster, Jeff Cranford, Caren Connolly, Tim Davis, Tony Davis, Paul Davis and Jane Noles.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob Hollingsworth Davis and Florence Adelle Ray Davis; his loving wife Mary Alice Davis; brothers Curry Davis, Curtis Davis and John Ray Davis; sisters Jeanette Davis, Sara Davis and Ann Cranford; Nephews John Stanford Davis, Barry Davis and Randy Davis.

Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze has been entrusted with the services to be held on Thursday, 5 November 2020.  Visitation will be at 1:00 – 2:00; the funeral service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Scott Veroneau officiating.  The Brothers of the Gulf Breeze Masonic Lodge will be providing the Masonic rites.  Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery.
