Wayne Dory

June 16, 1948 — August 11, 2024

Wayne C. Dory, 76, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Born on June 16, 1948, he was the beloved son of Wesley and Elaine (Horne) Dory.

Wayne enjoyed a 29-year career with J.C. Penney before retiring and moving to Navarre Beach, Florida—a place that quickly became his personal paradise! There, surrounded by old friends and new, he spent some of the happiest years of his life soaking up the sun, the sand, and countless joyful memories.

A true jack-of-all-trades, Wayne could build or fix just about anything. He was our very own MacGyver—always tinkering, inventing, and dreaming up new projects. Whether it was homemade slingshots and skateboards, backyard forts and go-carts, or winter igloos and a backyard ice rink, Wayne brought imagination and fun to everything he touched. He was also a devoted music lover, a frequent concertgoer, and a proud car collector and enthusiast.

Later in life, Wayne embraced new hobbies, including painting. His beach scenes, signed with his whimsical alter ego “Yrod,” became cherished works among friends and family. If you own one, consider yourself lucky.

More than anything, Wayno was truly the life of the party—a bright light, a generous soul, and a man who lived with boundless energy and heart. His absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him and we miss him dearly.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jeanne; his children, Robin, Jennifer, and Jeremy; and his treasured grandchildren, Caden, Katelyn, Mason, Lucy, and Justine, who lovingly called him “Papa Wayne” or “Pop Pop.” He is also survived by his three brothers, Scott, Mark, and Bruce.

Wayne had a way of making even goodbyes feel light, ending many calls- especially to his grandchildren, with a cheerful “Toodle-oo.” So that’s what we say now- not goodbye but see you later. Your time with us was a gift and even though your essence lives on in every memory you gave us, life will never be the same without you.

Until we meet again…
