Urie Peterson

January 5, 1924 — March 19, 2018

Urie Greer Peterson (MeeMee) went home peacefully to our Heavenly Father, Monday, March 19, 2018 with her family by her side. She passed away at the Villas/Watermark of Gulf Breeze Assisted Living where she had been a resident for 10 years.

Mrs. Peterson was born January 5, 1924 in Jamestown, Louisiana. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1941 and then graduated from Business College in Shreveport, LA and began working for New York Life. It was at this time she met her future husband, W. F. "Pete" Peterson, Sr. and they married in 1943.

During the time her husband was in college and later graduated, they had three children. Out of necessity, Mrs. Peterson became a self-taught and very accomplished seamstress. Over the years, she created many clothing items, including elaborate formal gowns for her daughters. In later years, Mrs. Peterson worked for the Federal Land Bank of Arcadia, LA and then the Cabot Corporation until her retirement in 1983.

Mrs. Peterson's passions were gardening, flowers, and cooking. Both she and her husband were very interested in farming and agriculture, and for a number of years commercially produced peaches and blueberries.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Bienville Parish Homemakers and the Kepler Lake Homemakers Clubs for over 10 years. As a member and later, president of her local garden club, Mrs. Peterson worked with other garden clubs of North Louisiana on an initiative with the Governor of Louisiana to beautify the highways by planting wildflowers along numerous roadsides and highway medians across the state.

Mrs. Peterson and her husband were faithful followers of Christ and were devoted members of the churches they attended. They were members of The First Baptist Church in Bienville, LA and upon moving, became active members of the First Baptist Church of Ringgold, LA. During this time, Mrs. Peterson was a member of WMU and served as a Sunday school teacher multiple years.
Mrs. Peterson treasured her many blessings in life, with the greatest being her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, W.F. "Pete" Peterson, Sr.; her parents, Johnnie and Alvin Greer; her brother, Dewey Greer; and a nephew, Ben Greer.

She is survived by her children: two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Dr. Joseph T. Saiter, Jr. and Janie and Jim Stewart, all of Gulf Breeze, FL, and one son and his wife, W.F. "Pete" Peterson, Jr. and Carla of Kepler Lake, LA.

Her eight grandchildren: Benjamin W. Peterson, Major, Mississippi Air National Guard, Lafayette, LA; Jennifer and Steve Towns, Minden, LA; Laura and Steve Lee, Castor, LA; Jana and Sean Sandler, Boynton Beach, FL; Johnny Burgess, III, and Jay and Cindy Saiter, Pensacola, FL; Sherie and Paul Snider, and Judd and Michelle Saiter, Gulf Breeze, FL.

11 precious great-grandchildren: Tate and Clayton Towns; Paul Jr., Joe, and Pete Snider, Lauren and Ashley Saiter; Jett and Blaise Saiter; John Carr Burgess IV; and Karlie Jo Lee.

Mrs. Peterson's grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.
