Obituary

Tammy Lynn Layton, age 68, of Gulf Breeze, FL passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 after battling ovarian cancer. She was born on December 7, 1957 in St. Petersburg, FL to Ronald C. and Katherine L. Harman.

Tammy was preceded in death by a son, John (J.B.) Brooks Layton; parents, Ronald C. and Katherine L. Harman; and brother, Ronald C. Harman, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Steven L. Layton; son, Cooper Ryan Layton; sister, Julie A. Harman and uncle, William Cooper all of Florida.

Tammy attended and graduated from Lakeland Senior High School and went to Ocala Community College on a music scholarship where she performed lead roles in over a dozen musicals. She was a talented singer and sang at her high school graduation.

Tammy was an impressive performer on stage where she had a beautiful soprano voice that would fill a theater without her using a microphone. She was also a remarkable swimmer and was the MVP on her high school swim team in 1975. After finishing college, she worked as a District Sales Manager for Combined Insurance Company for 11 years, achieving numerous sales records.

Tammy was an avid tennis player in the 80’s and 90’s and ran numerous tennis leagues which earned her U.S.T.A. League Coordinator of the Year in 1989. She loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, and going to the beach with her husband and two boys. She was a huge Gator fan and had fun battling her husband on who was better, her Gators or his FSU Seminoles.

Later this summer there will be a private service and celebration of life on a Dolphin Cruise for close family and friends where a portion of her ashes will be spread.
