In Loving Memory of Sidney Ann Glassmire (nee Miller)
Sidney Ann Glassmire, a kind, caring, and devoted wife and mother, passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 73. Born on July 22, 1949, to Frances Jean Kurtz and Robert F. Miller, Sidney brought joy and love to all who knew her. Her departure leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community.
Sidney was a woman of many passions. She had a deep appreciation for artwork, always finding inspiration in nature through color, shape, and form. She was also an avid quilter who enjoyed sharing her gift with others. Her beautiful quilts, often made in the company of fellow St. Paul and Epiphany Lutheran friends, are treasured by all who received them. Her love for creativity extended beyond fabric, pencil and paper to her own home, where she created a warm and inviting space that reflected her love of family and charismatic personality.
Sidney found solace and companionship in her beloved dogs, Beebe and Bear, who were more than just pets to her. They were her faithful fur children, offering unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. The bond she shared with them brought immeasurable joy and comfort throughout her life.
Gardening was another passion that brought Sidney immense joy. She had a green thumb and could often be found tending to her patio gardens, plants and flowers with tender care. Her lush leafy patios reflected her nurturing spirit and illustrated her ability to bring beauty into the world.
A woman of great faith, Sidney rejoiced in worship of the Lord. She was blessed with a congregation and community of love and support at Epiphany Lutheran Church and was excited to be part of their growth, always willing to lend her talents with vigor whenever there was a need.
Sidney leaves behind her devoted husband, Charles Fayger Glassmire, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She met her loving husband Chuck in confirmation class as a thirteen year old and never looked back. Together for 60 years, married for 53 years, they shared devotion for each other that is unending. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and commitment and their partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Family was the cornerstone of Sidney's life, and she poured her heart and soul into being a loving wife and mother. She cherished every moment spent with her children, Charlie Glassmire, Johannette Raynal, and Heather Stewart, her grandchildren, Reilly and Ryan Raynal and Jakob Stewart and her chosen children, Julien Raynal, Shanna Weott and Erik Stewart. Sidney's dedication to her family knew no bounds, and her love and guidance will forever be etched in their hearts.
Sidney is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, her older sister, Jean Ramey, younger sister, Margie Elkins, her sisters-in-law, Carole Kerstetter and Melanie Glassmire, her brother-in-law, Jim Elkins, and her closest and dearest friend Evelyn Hersey. Each of them knew her better than most and held special places in her heart.
Although Sidney's physical presence may be gone, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her caring nature, her readiness to laugh and her zest for life. Sidney's legacy of love and joy will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
We take solace in a joyous spiritual quote of which we were reminded recently by Sidney’s friend and much loved Pastor, Frank Gore. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
