Richard John Laucella was a lifelong Navy man. Born on December 2, 1941 in Flushing, New York he dropped out of school and at the age of 17 enlisted in the Navy. During his career he served on seven ships, including one during the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade, another on a hospital ship during Vietnam. The USS Lexington was his final sea duty.
