Retired MSgt. Richard D. Kopf Sr., born on June 24, 1931, passed away on December 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of honor, dedication, and love. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose impact reached far beyond his military service.
Born in 1931, Richard served his country with distinction, retiring from the United States Air Force after a long and decorated career that included dedicated service during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. As a retired Master Sergeant, he demonstrated unwavering commitment, discipline, and a strong sense of duty throughout his years of service. Richard, also affectionately known as “Dick” to many, was a very proud patriot who loved serving his country. His dedication to duty earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and superiors alike.
Beyond his military achievements, Richard was a loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie, who was not only a steadfast companion but also a loving caretaker that stood beside him during the last and most difficult years of his life. He loved her deeply and together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.
Richard fought a long and valiant battle with sickness, facing each challenge with the strength and resilience that defined his character. He fought like a true hero, demonstrating courage and determination that inspired all who knew him. Today, as we bid farewell, we take solace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and that he can rejoin his late wife and rest in eternal peace.
Richard was a proud and caring father to his daughters, Pam, Shelly, and Connie, and his son, Richie. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love formed the foundation upon which his family flourished. Richard’s legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his children, creating a lasting impact that will be felt for generations to come.
In addition to his immediate family, Richard, also affectionately known as “Papaw” and “Pappo” to his grandchildren, leaves a legacy of love behind in the form of his grandchildren: Josh Bean, Justin Bean, Jennifer McClean, and Faith Kopf, and his great grandchildren Hailey Bean, and Jase Bean. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom, creating special memories, and building strong family bonds that will endure the test of time.
As he embarks on his final journey, Richard will be reunited with the love of his life, the mother of his children and late wife Nancy Kopf, who passed away on May 7, 2012. Together, their love will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of their family and friends.
