Obituary

Patricia Lyman Overlade, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, artist, and teacher, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida, at the age of 73. She was born on February 20, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Art was one of the ways Patricia cared for people. She taught students from preschool through high school, as well as people in prison, sharing her love of creativity with people of all ages and backgrounds. Her generosity reached beyond the classroom. She sent art supplies to children and adults across the country, giving others the opportunity to experience the joy she found in creating. She loved vibrant colors, abstract shapes, and working with clay, especially when she could share what she made with someone else.

To her children and grandchildren, she was Mom and Granny. She remained closely involved in their lives and cherished opportunities to spend time together. Her grandchildren would visit for weeks at a time for “Granny’s art camps,” creating alongside her and making memories they will carry throughout their lives. She also took a loving and active interest in the lives of her stepchildren and Kurt’s grandchildren.

Patricia and her husband, Kurt, grew in faith as Christians together and this was a significant part of her life. She found a natural way to share her love for the Lord through her art, making hundreds of clay crosses to send on mission trips. These gifts reflected her desire to encourage others and share God’s love through something made by her own hands.

Patricia enjoyed healthy cooking, baking, and taking drives to explore the scenery. She loved the emerald waters and white sands around her home in Gulf Breeze and Milton and throughout the Florida Panhandle. She and Kurt treasured their time at their camp in Wing, Alabama. The creek that ran through their property was her happy place. She found beauty in the places around her and joy in sharing them with the people she loved.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Kurt Overlade; her daughter Kristen Heuisler (Chuck) and grandchildren Thomas Diaz and Lilly Heuisler; her daughter Laura Ridley (Gabe) and grandchildren Luke, Noah, and Abigail Ridley; her son Peter Kelly (Nadia) and her daughter Sara Erdwins (Chad), and grandchildren Chase, Beau, and Sadie Mae Erdwins. She also leaves behind her stepchildren, Colette Clark (Jason) and step grandchildren, Taylor Holbrook, Bryson Holbrook, and Jason Clark; Scott Overlade (Jaime) and stepchildren Grant Overlade (Miyah) and great grandchild (Octavia) and step grandchild Kaili Overlade.

She is also survived by her siblings: Cheryl Mack of Cincinnati, Ohio; Steven Lyman of Trenton, Michigan; Philip Lyman of Salem, Oregon; Susan Lyman of Tucson, Arizona and Bay View, Michigan; and Donna Lyman of Highland Park, Michigan.

Patricia will be remembered for her giving heart, her faith, and her devotion to her family. The art she shared and the memories she made with those she loved remain lasting reminders of her life, especially the precious days spent with their beloved Granny.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Patricia’s memory to David Leslie Ministries (davidleslieministries.org), Interfaith Ministries (interfaith-ministries.org) or Pensacola Dream Center (pensacoladreamcenter.org) honoring her lifelong love of art and her generosity towards others.
