Othella Wright

Othella Faye Wright passed away in her sleep on May 31st 2025. Othella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and truly the rock of our family. She was well organized and kept the family together, ready to help any of us who needed it, truly providing a place for us all to call home. She was a big piece of all of our lives, she is already greatly missed.

Othella was born on November 13th, 1945 in Portales, New Mexico to H.L. And Thelma Davis. She described one of her fondest memories of her childhood was eating oatmeal with her father after he milked the cows and drinking that same milk straight from the cow. As a teen, Othella went on a blind date to a movie theater with an air force man named David Edward Wright whom she would marry on December 7th, 1961. After marriage she fell right into her position as a homemaker and trying to raise a family. After a few years and a miscarriage, they welcomed two girls into their family, Teresa and Ketra. She became pregnant a third time with her only son Kenneth but was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during the pregnancy and due to complications, he unfortunately was stillborn around 30 weeks gestation. Othella loved her children and did her best for them in every way she could, including volunteering at their schools, chaperoning many field trips, and even being the girls' girl scout troop leader. While her girls were in school, she took an opportunity to be a substitute secretary for the school district, sometimes working at her daughters' school as well. She was lovingly protective with her children. She cared for her family so much that even after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, she would still cook and bake for hours every holiday season making Ooey Gooey Butter cake and candies for her girls, friends and neighbors.

As her children grew up, Othella switched roles from mother to grandmother with ease when her first grandchild (David) was born in 1990. She took on a primary caregiving role with David during part of his first year and cared for him like the son she couldn't raise herself. She stayed very active in her grandchildren's lives continuing to volunteer at their schools and chaperone their field trips as often as possible. When her daughter Teresa needed help, she was right there, coming over early every morning to make breakfast for her grandchildren and get them ready for school, then picking them up after school and watching them until Teresa could pick them back up. She became a pillar in her grandchildren's lives and truly a cornerstone of their upbringing and childhood.

Othella always put others first and cared for all those around her. This shone through her work at St Augustine's Episcopal Church where she volunteered and helped out in many ways, with the vestry and the Altar guild but especially in the kitchen. All those she worked with in the kitchen say they can still hear her telling them not to touch anything without her permission! She gained many friends at St. Augustine's and especially as all her grandchildren grew up she spent more and more time there helping out and giving to her church family as well.

Othella also had many hobbies outside of caring for others which included bowling, crocheting, sewing, going to garage sales, and painting. Many of her paintings still hang in her house today, admired by her many family members.

Othella was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother H.L. Davis Jr, her stillborn son Kenneth Wright, her grandson Michael Steven Robinson Jr, and son in law Roy Vincent.

She is survived by her husband David, her two daughters Teresa Vincent and Ketra Robinson, her son in law Micheal Robinson, 7 grandchildren and 4 grandchildren in law: David and his wife Stacey, Sarah and her husband EJ, Emily and her husband Dean, Cody, Riley, Rebecca and her husband Erik, and Bradley, as well as 7 great grandchildren: Kade, Bradley, Madelyn, Savannah, Lucas, Adelaide, and Dean lll aka Tripp, born just 8 days before her passing.

Funeral Services will be held on June 21st beginning at 1:30 -2:30 at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church for visitation with the family, 2:30 -3:30 will be the funeral service and then the graveside service will be held from 3:30-4:30 at the Rose Lawn Cemetery. Those who cannot attend in person, there will be a live stream of the services through the church's Facebook and YouTube.
