Muriel Laure Cormier, age 86, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away peacefully at her home on June 30, 2025, surrounded by family, after over a decade long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Muriel was born on October 20, 1938 in Saco, Maine, to Raymond and Aurore Plante and was the third oldest of four children. She grew up in Biddeford, ME and graduated from St. Mary's College in Lewiston, ME, with a Bachelor's in Nursing and worked during her life as a Labor and Delivery nurse, bringing joy to countless families by assisting with the birth of new life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Raymond LaPlante; sister, Lucille DeVane; and grandson, Stephen Cormier.
Muriel is survived and missed by her loving husband, Edward, to whom she was married for over 63 years. As a result of serving the country as a Navy wife for 38 years, she lived in some of the most beautiful places in the world, including San Diego, Italy, Spain and Hawaii and traveled to many countries around the globe.
She was a devoted mother and wife who was never afraid to take on new opportunities or adventures. Everything she did was with honesty and integrity. She had strong values, incredible patience, an infectious energy and always made time to help others. She volunteered for hospice for several years and had a number of charities she supported. She enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, book clubs and crafts and was always up for playing games - she was fondly known as the Queen of Yahtzee.
Muriel is also survived by her daughter, Suzanne Cormier-Livesay (Matt) of Orlando, FL; sons, Mark and Michael of San Diego, CA; sister, Monique Leigh of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie and Matty; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Theodore.
There are no words to express how grateful the family is for the friends that provided joy in Muriel's journey through life and for those very special individuals, specifically her amazing caregivers and the numerous staff at People's Home Health and Hospice, who helped Muriel during her final years. Although Muriel's physical presence will no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
Muriel's Celebration of Life will be held at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze on Monday, July 7. Visitation will be 10-11:00 a.m.; Mass at 11:00 and a reception immediately following in the parish center. Muriel will be buried on Tuesday, July 8 at Barrancas National Cemetery in a private family gathering.
