Mickey Ray Mattocks

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Mickey Ray Mattocks, who entered eternal rest on July 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Mickey was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sammie Payne Mattocks, his sons, Gary Michael Mattocks(Natalie) and John Stephen Campbell (Shirley) He is also survived by his brothers, Ron (Terri) and Kenny Mattocks (Linda), grandchildren, Alexander, Abby, Olivia, and Henry, great-grandchildren, Korbin and Jhordan. He also had many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who were deeply important to him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Verdi and his mother, Lorene.
He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Casper who brought him much comfort.
Growing up in Los Angeles, California, he earned an Associate Degree at California State Fullerton. After high school, he served in the Army for 23 years, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in Vietnam during the Tet offensive, earning medals including the Bronze Star, and Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Service Stars, among others. His later career in the Army included tours of duty in Berlin, Italy, and Pensacola including the Gulf War. After the Army, he also continued to serve for 15 years as a Deputy Sheriff in the Escambia County Sheriff Department.
It was in Pensacola, that he sailed up to Pensacola Beach on his favorite catamaran and met his love, Sammie. They spent many years sailing together, raising children, and traveling the US and Europe. Many of his fondest memories was visiting with his Brother and Sister-in-Law, Ron and Teri Mattocks in Lake Wedowee, Alabama.
The funeral service will take place at Rose Lawn Funeral Home at 12:00 in Gulf Breeze, Florida. The attendees will then proceed to Barrancas National Cemetery for a final service at 2:00 PM (1400 hours).
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Navarre United Methodist Church.
