Mary Gaines

December 4, 1929 — September 6, 2008

Mary Yoders Gaines departed this world to be with our Lord and Savior on September 6, 2008. Mary was born in Marianna, Pennsylvania on December 4, 1929. She was married to Lt Col Robert H. Gaines, Jr., USAF, Retired, for almost 56 years. She was the mother of four children, Gaye Gaines Miller and her husband, Mike, of Pensacola, Florida, Robin Gaines Lambert of Pensacola, Florida, Robert H. Gaines, III, of Plano, Texas and Lt Col Kenneth A. Gaines, USAF, Retired, and his wife, Donna, of Lithia, Florida. She leaves behind three grandchildren, Angela Fleming of Pensacola, Florida, and Taylor and Austin Gaines of Lithia, Florida. Mary was a member the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and the New Life Sunday School class. Mary worked as a Medical Secretary at the University of West Florida Medical Center Clinic for 14 years after her husband retired from military service. Mary was an excellent crafter, crocheting many beautiful afghans and tea towels for family and friends. She also embroidered pillow slips and made several quilts, all for family, friends and acquaintances. Mary was an avid golfer and could be seen on the course every Tuesday and Thursday, rain or shine. Visitation will be held at the Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, Florida, from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. There will be a private burial service at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff at Covenant Hospice for their support and guidance during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations to the Living Trust at the First United Methodist Church, 6 East Wright Street, Pensacola, FL 32501 or Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504. Mary was loved by her family and friends and we will all miss her dearly. Arrangements are entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze.
