Lynn Toney

Lynn Toney, 83, of Gulf Breeze, died July 25, 2008. He was born in Daisetta, Texas, on November 23, 1924, and grew up in Beaumont, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Army, Lynn graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and communication. While visiting Pensacola on vacation, Lynn fell in love with the beaches and decided this would be his home. Lynn spent a short time at WKRG radio in Mobile and moved to Pensacola in 1954 when WEAR-TV went on the air. "The Lynn Toney Show" was on the air for 10 years and then Lynn began weather and news reporting, followed by the "Popcorn Theater." Eventually moving into sales, Lynn left WEAR after 21 years and opened an advertising agency. Later in life, Lynn was affiliated with Eastern Gate and Rose Lawn funeral homes. As an ordained Baptist minister, Lynn served as interim pastor for many area churches. Lynn was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 42 and the Scottish Rite. Committed to civic responsibilities, Lynn received numerous awards and commendations for his many contributions to Northwest Florida. One of Lynn's favorite events was being the Master of Ceremonies for Bernice Berlingame's dance recitals. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Rose Toney, brother-in-law Cy Robertson, and beloved cousin Jack Patterson, all of Beaumont, TX. Lynn is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Janice Toney, daughter Tami Lynn Toney, and son Dale Brewer. He is survived by grandchildren Jennifer Brewer of Charlotte, NC, and Julie Brewer Hancy (Stephen), and great-grandchildren Foster and Annie of Pensacola. Lynn is survived by his sister Ruth Robertson and cousin Susie Patterson of Beaumont, TX. His favorite sister-in-law, Jewell Green, survives him in Pensacola along with several nieces and nephews. Lynn is also survived by two special extended family members, Curt Warren and Alicia Baker, both of Pensacola. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff of Pensacola Health Care and Emerald Coast Hospice for their excellent care. Visitation will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, Gulf Breeze, on Monday, July 28, 2008, from 5-7 p.m. His funeral will be conducted by special friends Bob Walton, Hayward Norred, and Carolyn Carroll, on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, Gulf Breeze, with interment in the Rose Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Jones, Earl Hutto, Jerry Parris, Jim Grimes, Hayward Norred, and Bob Walton. We'll miss you, Lynn. "Now it's time to go out jumping!"
