Gulf Breeze

Gary Leon Potter, Jr. of Gulf Breeze, Florida went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 1, 2023, at the age of 62.

Born June 10th, 1960 in Germany and raised in a military family, Gary himself served in the US Air Force for 24 years, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel.  He was widely recognized as an expert on the employment of American and Allied air refueling assets. Because of his efforts he was awarded The Meritorious Service Medal, along with many other awards commending his outstanding service in the Air Force.  After his retirement from active duty, he dedicated 12 years to the 505th Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field until that retirement in 2021.  Gary attended Southwest Texas State University and earned his master’s degree at Embry-Riddle in Aeronautical Engineering.

Gary travelled the world in the military and beyond, spending many months in Hawaii.  He was an avid outdoorsman, taking many trips to Costa Rica and Mexico to catch big fish, along with many deep-sea adventures off the coast of Florida.  He also enjoyed hunting in Texas, cherishing that time with his sons, brothers, nieces and nephews.  He was at peace on the beach and spent many hours walking the beach and collecting shells.  He was also a fantastic cook, especially on the grill.  He loved life and lived it large.

Gary was a devoted follower of Jesus, Loved his church, Coastline Calvary Chapel, and his church family.

Gary is survived by his wife, Tara, two sons:  Gary Leon “Gus” Potter III (Chelsea) and Alec Cameron Potter (Saralyn), two stepsons:  Colt Riley (Erica) and Jarrett Riley, and two brothers:  James “Jimmy” Potter (Roxanne) and Brian Potter (Stephanie).  He is preceded in death by his parents:  Gary and Sally Potter.
