Obituary

Julie Anne Johnson, 86, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, learning, and laughter. Born on March 10, 1940, in The Dalles, Oregon.

Julie graduated from Condon High School and attended Oregon College of Education and Oregon State University. Throughout her life, she remained deeply committed to her community and to the causes she believed in. She served as a teacher, volunteered generously, chaired the Baker County Democratic Party, and participated in the Muddy Creek Improvement Group.

Above all, Julie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her brother, David P. Johnson and his wife, Marlene; her sons, Christopher DeMauro, James DeMauro and his wife, Doralyn,; and her daughter, Katherine Street and her husband, Kelly. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Robert DeMauro, Justine DeMauro, Molly Ndoloum, Michael Street, Joseph Street, Ariel DeMauro, Emily Jefferson, and Robert Conaway, along with 15 great grandchildren

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Ariel Wall (Pryor) and Charles Johnson; her husband, Larry Vandehey; and her son, Michael DeMauro.

She found joy in gardening, reading, spending time with dogs, and listening to the music of James Taylor. Family and friends will remember her warm spirit, her dedication to others, her love of books and learning, and her wonderful sense of humor. She was famously bad with directions and often running late, traits that became beloved family stories and sources of laughter over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baker County Library District or the Gulf Breeze Library in Julie’s honor.

The family is planning a private service.
