John Steven “Stevie” Alexander, 52, of Gulf Breeze, passed away on February 19, 2026.
Stevie was born on December 12, 1973, in Charlotte, NC. From the very beginning, he had a strong spirit and a big heart that would carry him through life.
He was a hardworking man through and through, spending his years as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He believed in earning an honest living and never shied away from hard work. If it had wheels, gears, pipes, or an engine that roared, Stevie loved it. He found peace on the water with a fishing pole in hand, freedom on a motorcycle, and pride in building cars. But the thing he loved most didn’t run on gasoline — it was time spent with his granddaughter, Dixie.
To Dixie, he wasn’t just Papaw — he was her “Ole Man.” And that title meant the world to him. Whether he was playing, teaching her something new, or just sitting close by, those were the moments that filled his heart the fullest.
Stevie was the kind of man you could count on. If you needed help, he showed up. If you were struggling, he stood beside you. Many will remember how he would choose helping someone else, even if it meant putting himself last. That’s just who he was.
After receiving his LVAD heart pump, Stevie didn’t keep his experience to himself. He became a steady voice and guiding hand in the LVAD recipient community, encouraging others, answering late-night questions, and walking folks through a road he knew firsthand. He turned his own fight into someone else’s hope.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Alexander Sr.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Amanda Alexander; daughter, Savannah Alexander; son, Jake Alexander; beloved granddaughter, Dixie Ballard; his mother, Sondra Alexander; his brother, Hubert Alexander Jr; and his niece Victoria Alexander
He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who were proud to call him theirs.
Though his time here feels far too short, Stevie lived the kind of life that leaves a mark. His strength, his generosity, his stubborn grit, and his deep love for his family will carry on in every engine that roars, every fishing line cast, and every memory shared.
He was one of the good ones — and he will be dearly missed.
