James A. Haffenden, SMSgt USAF Retired, passed away on December 21, 2022. He was born May 6, 1935 in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Allen and Olive Haffenden.
Jim actively served 24 years in the United States Air Force. He retired in August 1977 at Shaw AFB, South Carolina. During his military career he received numerous decorations, awards and commendations. He was also a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a registered Medical Technologist who retired for a second time in 1997 as the Laboratory Manager of a local hospital in Hartsville, South Carolina.
He was actively involved with the South Carolina State Society of Medical Technologists, serving as President (5 Years) as well as Vice President and Board Member for several years. During this time, he received several awards for service to the laboratory profession.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Tina Haffenden; sister, Sue Voss; and two brothers, Pete Haffenden and Mark Rowley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Davis.
A private burial was held on January 5, 2023 at Barrancas National Cemetery located on Pensacola Naval Air Station.
