Inge Schmidt

Inge Therese Elisabeth Schmidt, 83, of Gulf Breeze, died Thursday, February 25, 2016, after a 6-year battle with renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) and lung cancer. Inge passed in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 23, 1933, in Essen, Germany, the daughter of Theodore Gelissen and Johanna Loebbert. On August 7, 1954, she was united in marriage to Walter Schmidt in Essen, Germany. In 1958 Walter and Inge moved to Long Island, New York. Inge completed her formal hair dressing school in Essen, Germany and continued her trade in New York. Shortly after arriving in the states, Inge put down her scissors to travel with her husband. Walter's work enabled them to travel to many exotic locations throughout their 62 year marriage. In 1970 Walter and Inge moved to Gulf Breeze where Inge became a successful business woman owning and managing multiple rental properties within the Gulf Breeze area. In 1995, both Inge and Walter partitioned for and became US citizens. In her spare time she enjoyed ceramics, shopping, and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her husband Walter Schmidt of Gulf Breeze; two children, Michael (Tina) Schmidt of Gulf Breeze, and Robert (Pamela) Schmidt of Rockledge, Florida; two grandchildren, Renae and Alexander; her brother Manfred (Angela Bothe) Gelissen of Dusseldorf, Germany; her cousin, Irma Lippka of Long Island, New York and their 4-legged companion Patsches. She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Gelissen and mother, Johanna Loebbert. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rose Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery.
