Gene David Kovatch, of Navarre, FL, passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, November 12th, 2023.
Gene was an loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born March 18th, 1935 in Baltimore, MD. He was an Eagle Scout; a graduate of the University of Maryland; a first responder with Chillum Adelphi, MD and Highview, KY Fire Departments as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Holley-Navarre firefighters pension fund. He was a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite for nearly 50 years as a part of Robinson Lodge in Louisville, KY and Gulf Breeze Lodge in Gulf Breeze, FL. He served as Past Master for Robinson Lodge and as Chaplain here in Florida. He also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where he served with his wife Lunette as Past Matron and Patron of Highland Park Lodge of Louisville. He was also a member of Kosair Shrine Temple where he founded the Kosair Kampers RV Club.
Gene loved camping, boating, NASCAR. In his later years he enjoyed counseling at risk children in Louisville and serving as a volunteer at the Holley-Navarre Primary School.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph Kovatch and Bertha Wesolowski, as well as brothers-in-law James Curtis and Jacob Eichler.
Gene is survived by wife Lunette Jackson Kovatch; along with his children Melody Kovatch Kennedy and her family (husband Brian; grandsons Jacob (Molly) and Tyler Kennedy, and great-granddaughter Margaux) all of Harahan, LA; David Gene Kovatch and his children (Jordan, Crystal (Cashelle), Kaylene, and Clayton Kovatch of The Colony, Texas); his sisters, Faith Kovatch Eichler of Ocean City, MD and her daughters Barbara, Linda, and Rhonda; and Hope Kovatch Koch, of Fallston, MD, her husband Frank, and her sons Jason, Gregory, and Christian.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Gulf Breeze Masonic Lodge in Gulf Breeze, Florida on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 at 6pm.
