Edward Sweeney

Edward Francis Sweeney October 17, 1920 - July 27, 2008 Edward was born in Dudley, Massachusetts on October 17, 1920 to Ovila and Anna Forand Sweeney. His formative years were spent in New London, Connecticut where he attended Saint Mary School and Chapman Technical High School. He followed his father into railroading until WWII, when he enlisted in the U S Navy and became a tail gunner in a two man plane. After wartime service Edward returned to the railroad for a number of years becoming a signal maintainer for the NYNH Railroad. Edward then came to Florida, worked at various things and eventually retired from Daniels in Gonzalez. He married Mildred Gray Greene, here, in Florida. Edward is survived by his wife Mildred Sweeney. Sons Richard (Elizabeth) Greene of Martha's Vineyard, MA, Jeffery Alderman and Michael Greene of Gulf Breeze, FL. Grandchildren, Anne (Patrick) Bureau of Westbrook, Maine, Richard (Jennifer) Greene III, of Arlee Montana, Courtney Greene, of Natick MA, Devan, Alice and Walter Greene, of Martha's Vineyard, MA, Vincent Greene of Milton, FL, Walker Greene of Destin, FL. His remaining sister Claire Slay lives in Wierton, WV. Sister-in-law Maria Gray. East Lyme, CT. Nieces; Jill (John) Bay, New Zealand, Diana Gray Thorstenson, East Lyme, CT, Ann (Buddy) Hogge Wicomico, VA, Carol (Brian)Winfield, Virginia Beach, VA, Elizabeth (Terry) Elenbass, Cedar Springs, MI, Patricia (Lee) Sillery, Gloucester, VA, Fay (Matt) Cavan, of New London, CT, Patty Barbour, of Ledyarad, CT, nephews William Garay Jr, of VA and Leon Girouard, of Stockdale, NC.
