Douglas Otis Herren, 81, of Gulf Breeze, Florida passed peacefully away May 25, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Douglas was born October 2, 1942, in Pensacola, Florida to the late Smitty and Marian Herren. He graduated from Escambia High School and retired from Pensacola News Journal after years of dedicated service. He was in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam era. Douglas spent his retirement enjoying hunting and fishing.
Douglas was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shay Callen; his uncle, Bud Herren; and his aunt Billy.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Herren; daughter, Sabrina Prince; granddaughter, Brittani Word-Herbst; son-in-law, Dillion Herbst; great grandsons, Imery Word, Luca Watson, Lief Herbst; great granddaughter, Chevelle Watson; brother, Gerald Herren; brother-in-law, Ronny Wesson.
We would like to thank Gulf Breeze Baptist ICU and the 2nd floor nurses for taking such good care of Douglas and being so kind. Dr. Pitel for being the kindest and nicest doctor we could have met. We would also like to take a moment to say thank you and we appreciate all you did for Douglas. I would like to also thank Cindy for being there for me.
