Cynthia Lean

August 18, 1937 — July 24, 2017

On 24 July, 2017 Cindy McLean died quietly in her sleep. Her 15 year war with Alzheimer's is finally over.
Cindy was born in Benton Illinois in1937 to George Moore and Mildred Dudley Moore. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, LTC Tom McLean (USA-RET); her only son, CAPT Curtis Scott Chesnutt (USN-RET) both of Navarre, Florida; her brother, Terry Moore of Valley, Washington; two cousins, Michele Haddock of Tampa, Florida and Jane Vernon of Longboat Key, Florida; and her niece, Nancy Atkins of Atlanta, Georgia.
Cindy arrived in the Pensacola area in the early 70's when her then husband, LT CMDR Bill Chesnutt was transferred to Gulf Breeze, Florida. During subsequent years she was active as a swimming coach at both Gulf Breeze High School and Scenic Hills Country Club. She was also the manager of the fine jewelry department at McRae's department store for 14 years until she retired in 1997. She loved water skiing, tennis and the beach and took advantage of any opportunity to enjoy them along with her many friends. Her love of animals often found her adopting stray cats in the neighborhood, then finding or making homes for them.
At Cindy's request there will be no formal viewing or funeral. However, the family will have a "Celebration of Her Life" sometime in the next few months at a place and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cindy's name to The Alzheimer's Association, or, to The Humane Society.
Thanks to Bay Breeze Nursing Home and especially to the caregivers on the 300 wing and to Nurses Margaret and Wendy for the love and care they have provided Cindy during these difficult years.
