Charles Henry Zimmerley, Proud Vietnam War Veteran and long time resident of Navarre, Florida passed away on October 14th, with his daughter, Nickey Burke by his side. He was 76 years old, born on February 6th, in Erie, Pennsylvania to June and Ellsworth Zimmerley.
Those who knew him, knew he was such a heroic soldier that loved his country from the beginning to the very end. If there could be a photo under the term bravery, it would be one of his own. He always loved sharing his stories, from all of the friends that he made throughout his military career, from what he saw in the Vietnam War, to just every day life as a gunner on the c130 gunship. And every time that he told one of those stories, it would be as if he was telling it for the very first time. But anyone who truly knew him, knew that we'd heard it about 500 times already, but it didn't matter because with each time that he told it, you could see the pride beaming from his face. He was so proud of his career, his family, his friends and his life. And in return, he made so many proud of him.
Charles was also a very outdoorsy man. He loved spending most of his time outdoors, whether it be fishing, horseback riding with his horse, Magic, hunting, etc. If it could be done outdoors, he was doing it!
He is survived by his daughter, Nickey Burke. His grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, Zachary, Ryan and Logan. His great grandchildren, Bryce, Emmalyn, Briac, Alessi and Octavia. He will forever be loved by those he left behind.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at The Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, with full military honors. His friends are welcome to attend and share any stories that you may have of him.
