Commander Bruce Wayne Rova, USN (Ret.), passed away on November 12, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. Born on May 10, 1948, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Bruce lived a life marked by service, dedication, and compassion.

Bruce graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota with a degree in mathematics. In 1971, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Over the course of a distinguished 23-year career in the Navy Supply Corps, he rose to the rank of Commander and earned numerous accolades for his exemplary service. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impression on those who served alongside him.

Following his retirement from the Navy in 1994, Bruce continued to serve his community in meaningful ways. He became the director of Escambia County Animal Services, where he led efforts to build the current animal shelter—an enduring testament to his vision and care for animals. His public service extended further as he worked as a recruiter for census takers during two national censuses, helping ensure accurate representation for communities across the region.

Bruce was deeply involved in his faith community at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. He sang joyfully in the choir and generously gave his time cooking meals for church gatherings. His presence was a source of warmth and encouragement to many.

A man of many interests, Bruce enjoyed playing tennis in his younger years and found peace and purpose in gardening. He had a deep passion for genealogy and loved exploring family histories. Travel was another joy that enriched his life with new experiences and connections.

Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Constance (Garman) Rova; his children: Michele Thweatt, Christopher Rova, Jennifer (Dunn) Kramer, and Matthew Kramer; and his grandchildren: Aspen Thweatt, Kiley Raines, Alyssa Piaget, and Penelope Rova. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford Henry Rova and Marion V. (Little) Rova; brothers Loren C. Rova, Robert M. Rova, and Richard N. Rova; daughter Sarah Rova; and stepsons Jared S. Dunn and Jonah R. Dunn.

Throughout his life, Bruce was known as a positive soul who loved people deeply and never hesitated to help anyone who asked. His legacy is one of kindness, integrity, and unwavering service—to his country, community, family, and faith.

May Bruce’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire acts of generosity and love. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, 75 Fairpoint Dr, Gulf Breeze.
