John Carlisle Hunt
1923 – 2010
John C. Hunt, 86, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in rural Murphy, North Carolina. He worked all his life beginning with the CCC’s under President Roosevelt. He served the United States by joining the US Navy at age 18. He bravely fought in World War II and the Korean War. He was one of the Proud to land on the beaches of Normandy, France. He gathered too many medals to mention. John also served in the Civil Service at Pensacola NAS for another 25 years.
John was admired and cared about by many, including his military friends. He was a well respected member of his community and he was a faithful servant of the Lord attending Concord Presbyterian Church faithfully for over 25 years.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Teresa Grant Hunt; his grandson, Dylan; granddaughter, Lacy; and his parents, Helen and Sam Hunt.
John raised children, successfully, by example and passed over with his family by his side. Surviving John are his children; Jean Matthew, William Rainwater, Helen Kane, Carla Rabon, Kathy Perry, and Sandy Hunt. John also leaves 18 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.
The family would like to make a special thank you to Josh, his caring Hospice nurse.
A Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 18, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Concord Presbyterian Church in Gulf Breeze, Pastor Robert Dekker will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s memory to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504.
